Free implant education is dominated by the implant companies, and used knowingly it’s excellent — surgical protocols, prosthetic components and digital planning presented by very good clinical educators. The knowing part: every system’s education understates its limitations, so triangulate. Watch Straumann and Neoss and Nobel content on the same topic and the shared principles emerge from the marketing.
For general dentists, the highest-value free hours aren’t surgical technique at all: they’re case selection and risk assessment (smoking, diabetes, parafunction, hygiene reality), restorative planning that starts from the final tooth position, and — increasingly urgent — peri-implantitis recognition and maintenance. Every GP now maintains implants someone else placed; the maintenance and complications content applies to you even if you never pick up a surgical handpiece.
A snapshot of the current directory: the strict topic matcher identifies 277 courses relevant to Implant across 30 providers. 181 are marked as having certificates, and 4 run two CPD hours or longer.
Implant dentistry is one of those areas where CPD can mean very different things depending on the course. One webinar might focus on osseointegration and implant design, another on maintenance, peri-implantitis, digital planning or restoring a single anterior implant. That makes a simple “best course” list a bit misleading.
This page compares the main types of free implant CPD available and links through to current courses in the FreeDentalCPD directory. It is intended to help you pick the right learning, rather than push you towards one provider.

How to compare implant CPD
For most clinicians, the most useful implant CPD is the course that matches the cases they actually see. A dentist restoring implants may get more value from prosthetic workflows and occlusion. A hygienist or therapist may find maintenance and peri-implant disease courses more relevant. A clinician starting out may be better served by diagnosis, case selection and radiographic planning before jumping into surgical technique.
| Course focus | Best suited to | What to look for |
|---|---|---|
| Diagnosis and planning | Dentists developing implant assessment skills | CBCT interpretation, case selection, risk assessment and referral thresholds |
| Restorative implant dentistry | Dentists restoring single units, bridges or overdentures | Impression or scan workflows, abutment choice, cementation and maintenance |
| Peri-implant maintenance | Dentists, hygienists, therapists and wider dental teams | Monitoring protocols, inflammation control, patient communication and recall planning |
| Surgical and regenerative topics | Clinicians placing implants or assisting surgical cases | Bone grafting, ridge preservation, flap design and complication management |
| Digital implant workflows | Practices using scanners, guides or digital planning software | Scan accuracy, guided surgery, restorative design and lab communication |
Providers commonly offering free implant CPD

Often has a broad mix of certificated implant webinars, including peri-implant disease, overdentures, digital workflows and bone regeneration.
Colgate Oral Health Network
Useful for implant maintenance and oral health topics that sit naturally within preventive care and hygiene-led recall.

What is the best free implant CPD course?
The best course depends on your role. For general dentists, a balanced starting point is usually a course on diagnosis, planning or restoring implants. For clinicians already involved in implant surgery, courses on grafting, complications, peri-implantitis and full-arch workflows may be more useful. For hygienists and therapists, implant maintenance and peri-implant disease courses are often the most clinically relevant.
Certificate availability also matters. If you are recording the course for formal CPD or CE requirements, check that the provider offers a certificate and that the learning aims are appropriate for your registration body.
Suggested learning pathway
- Start with assessment: case selection, medical risk factors, radiographic interpretation and informed consent.
- Move to restoration: impressions or scans, abutments, occlusion, cement-retained versus screw-retained options and maintenance access.
- Add maintenance: peri-implant mucositis, peri-implantitis, recall intervals and patient home care.
- Then go deeper: guided surgery, ridge preservation, grafting, immediate loading and full-arch rehabilitation.
Frequently asked questions
Can I earn CPD certificates from free implant dentistry courses?
Many free implant CPD courses include a certificate after completion. The directory marks certificate availability where known, but it is still sensible to confirm the provider’s requirements before starting the course.
Are free implant CPD courses suitable for beginners?
Yes, provided you choose the right level. Introductory courses on assessment, treatment planning and implant maintenance are more appropriate for early learners than advanced surgical or full-arch content.
Do manufacturer courses count as useful CPD?
They can. Manufacturer education is often practical and clinically focused, but it may naturally feature that company’s products. The key is to separate the general clinical principles from product-specific claims.
How often should I check for new implant CPD?
New courses appear throughout the year. Checking the directory every few weeks, or subscribing to updates, is the simplest way to find recently added implant courses.
